Yoga for Fertility FAQ
How is Yoga for Fertility different from “regular” yoga?
This is a question I get asked a lot! One basic way is that our goals in Yoga for Fertility are very different from other common types of yoga classes, which are often “get fit” type or “yoga-aerobics” classes. In Yoga for Fertility, we choose fertility supporting yoga practices such as pelvic and heart opening poses, poses for hormonal balancing and stress reduction. We may be also limiting certain types of poses that are too strenuous, or otherwise not helpful from a fertility standpoint. And finally, we are adapting poses to where students are in their monthly cycles, or assisted reproductive cycles.
How much yoga experience do I need to join Yoga for Fertility classes?
My classes are open to, and helpful for, any level of yoga practitioner. The classes are gentle enough for those who are new to yoga, and I have also had many yoga teachers take my classes.
If I am planning an assisted cycle, how far ahead of time should I sign up for Yoga for Fertility classes?
The benefits of yoga are cumulative, so the earlier you can start, the longer you will have to accrue the benefits. Yoga is health-promoting on so many levels, and is working to resolve the underlying issues that are blocking conception, and this can take time. Usually, these issues have been building up for many years, or even for most of our life.
Can I take Yoga for Fertility classes if I am starting, or in the middle of, an IVF cycle?
Yes, it is fine to start at any time, even if you have already started an IVF or FET cycle. We can modify poses as needed based on where you are in the cycle.
How big are the classes?
My Live Online and In-Studio classes are capped at 16 students, in order that each student can receive personalized attention, as needed.
Are the classes drop-in?
In order to ensure that the classes feel safe, and to build community, they are not offered on a drop-in basis. Classes are offered in a series, usually of 6-8 weeks.
Can I drop in to a class to check it out before registering?
There is not an option to drop in to a class to check it out, for the reasons mentioned above. However, if you register and decide after the initial class that it is not for you, you can receive a refund.
What is the evidence that Yoga for Fertility helps boost success rates?
In a research study led by Dr. Alice Domar, a Harvard-educated psychologist and pioneer in the field of mind/body medicine, doing yoga and meditation boosted the chance of a pregnancy by over 3 times, versus a control group. Why? Yoga works on so many levels, so a committed yoga practice can often help to resolve the underlying issues that are preventing pregnancy.
